My Journey Fighting Thyroid Cancer
Hi Friends, Family, and Supporters,
My whole life changed forever on Friday, August 7, 2015 when I received a phone call from my physician regrettably informing that me that I have been diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer.
My journey began when I first noticed that the front of my neck looked to be abnormally enlarged. I consulted my physician where it was confirmed that my thyroid was oversized and immediately was ordered to have an ultrasound of my thyroid and lab work drawn. The ultrasound results returned showing abnormal and ominous findings and was told a biopsy of my thyroid as well as lymph nodes would be needed. Each day that went by felt like an eternity as I awaited the results of the biopsy. On August 7th, my nightmare of possible cancer became a reality; the biopsy results showed Papillary Thyroid Cancer with Metastasis to Lymph Nodes. That day I realized that not only the next couple of months, but the rest of my life is going to be a test of toughness, faith, and hope.
I now have multiple specialists on my team including pathologists, surgeons, and endocrinologists to plan how we will beat this thyroid cancer.
Thank you in advance for your love and support. I will be keeping you up to date through my battle with cancer. Thank you again for your support, prayers, and hope through this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Soon to be Cancer Survivor Suzanna
Klara's Cancer Relief Fund
My girlfriend, Klara Dohnalova, is the strongest, most optimistic, and beautiful girl I know. She is the type of person that makes other people happier just by being around. She recently transferred to Georgia Gwinnett College, over 4,000 miles from her home of Trinec, Czech Republic, and she is a dedicated student, an active member of the student population at GGC, and a member of the top-ranked Grizzly tennis team. Klara brings light to any room and a smile to every face. The first few months of 2015 have been incredibly hard for Klara, but because of her courage, her strength, and her beauty, she will continue to impact others positively for the rest of her life. While home for Christmas in the winter of last year, 2014, Klara fell ill with a fever while at home visiting for the holidays. She went to the doctor, took antibiotics, seemed to recover, and returned to Lawrenceville for her Spring semester and tennis season. Throughout January, Klara never felt that her health returned to 100%, and after numerous visits to her doctor, she eventually spent her entire Valentine’s Day in the Emergency Room at Gwinnett Medical Center with me. We never expected to spend our Valentine’s Day in the hospital! The results of an endless battery of tests performed that day led Klara to a specialist, and finally to an unthinkable conclusion – Klara was diagnosed with Stage two Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the immune system through the lymphatic system. Klara is always one to find a positive in any negative, and she was happy to hear that there is a great chance of a full recovery. She immediately made up her mind that she would recover fully, and after four very successful chemotherapy treatments, she and her doctors are pleased with the progress she is making. She is getting better every day, and is still always smiling and focusing on the positives in her life. While Klara’s chances for full recovery look great, the treatment and endless doctor visits have a way of taking a toll on her, even as positive and optimistic as she is. This GoFundME project is to aid Klara in meeting her out-of-pocket expenses and to provide her with a peace of mind in at least one area that WE can all help her. Even the smallest donations can ease the financial burden she is facing as she receives treatment, which can in turn have an incredibly positive effect on her recovery and her life as it provides her with peace of mind and a way to handle many of the unseen stresses of recovering from a serious illness. Please consider contributing to help a truly great person get through a very difficult time.
